July 2nd? WHA?!?

Neither Ian or I can quite believe that it’s already Q3 and the year is halfway over. Which also explains [excuses] why I’ve been a bit remiss in posting the bear pictures…it’s my own mental protest against the passing of time. Though with 17 days until her first birthday, it’s time to get on board!

(I also included some bonus swim pics–enjoy!)

While the glasses didn't make it into the picture, we did manage to get her to stand still. (Only a day late this time, taken on June 20th)

More Milestones (and the latest bear pic)

Though I find it difficult to believe, Alexandra is now nine months old (and has been for several days now). She’s officially been outside longer than she was inside! Time does fly when you’re sleep deprived having fun.

Most importantly, she continues to be in good health overall (though, ironically, I think she caught a cold at the doctor’s office). The stats from her nine-month appointment:

  • Length: 2’4″ and 63rd percentile … I actually think she’s taller than this, but it’s hard to get babies to straighten out to get accurate measurements.
  • Weight: 22 lb, 12.5 oz and 96th percentile … and before anyone out there worries, she’s fine and the doctor isn’t worried about her weight. In fact, Dr. Jeanne’s comment was that most of the weight is probably in her head, since …
  • Head Circumference: 47.5 cm and literally off the charts (since 100th percentile doesn’t really exist) … I repeat my assertion that she is very smart, though the compliments she receives daily may also be inflating her head. (Seriously, whenever we go out, someone comments on how beautiful she is. Usually with the intro line of “those eyes!”)
"I'm nine months old now!" Editor's note: And getting so tall!

In other Alex news, we’re also cleared to start finger foods, which is off to a slow start. However, Bo seems to be enjoying this latest turn of events.

And, in family news, we get to fix the plumbing in the master bath AND replace part of the main line! Yay for home ownership! (To be clear, by “we,” I mean “the people we’re hiring to take care of it.” Just in case you hallucinated for a second and thought we’d try to do it ourselves or something equally crazy.)

8-Month Bear Photo

Yes, she’s eight months old already. As promised, here’s the latest bear picture, both at home and “professionally” done at the Picture People. (By the way, hooray for Groupon and their cheap photo portrait deals!)

Because I can’t get over how fast she’s growing up, here’s the first bear picture:

7-Month Bear Picture

Yes, she’s already seven months old. We actually took the pictures on Tuesday. But then I was felled by whatever evil cold is going around and am just now recovering. (Big thanks to Ian for working from home today to give me some relief.)

Go Storm!

I’m seven months old today! (Said Alex on February 19th.)

Look how tall I am! Maybe I'll be playing for the Seattle Storm one day!

Mid-Year Milestones

MLK weekend marked two major milestones for the McCulloughs:

1) Alexandra turned six months old. Yes, really.

2) Lara spent her first night away from Alexandra.

To honor #1, the monthly “bear pictures” follow. She’s actually sitting up on her own now, so we have one of her and Aaron (the bear) on the couch in the “standard” pose and then one of her showing off her sitting skills on the floor.

With regards to #2, I drove to Santa Barbara on Saturday and came back on Sunday. The first hour of the drive was a bit tough, as I was missing my munchkin (and Ian, of course). However, after that, I enjoyed the drive, the quiet and the lack of spit-up.

I headed south for an absolutely amazing yoga retreat, led by the incomparable Barbara Rose Sherman. (Barbara also led the yoga retreat to Italy in 2004, for those of you who remember me gushing about that trip.) On Sunday, she had a day-long yoga retreat in Montecito, focusing on bringing more peace to our lives. There was meditation, hiking, yoga, good food and good people. This was AFTER Barbara’s wonderful hospitality the night before, in which I went to bed at 9:00 and didn’t have to get up until 8:00. Bliss. Many, many thanks to Barbara, the hostess-with-the-mostess, for taking such great care of me.

Bear Picture!

Though I can’t quite believe it, Alexandra is five months old today. We’re not sure how it happened because we certainly didn’t give her permission to grow so fast.

She’s enjoying eating solid foods. Thus far, apples and bananas* have been her favorites. We haven’t tried carrots, so perhaps she’ll continue the alphabetic enjoyment. (Granted, she hasn’t NOT liked avocados, pears, prunes, or sweet potatoes. It’s really degrees of liking.) She can sit up with assistance and can roll over from her front to her back. She’s also gotten quite good at grabbing things (namely my hair and Ian’s glasses). She babbling and drooling and overall really just an adorable baby.

Heh. I have his glasses. (Just like Daddy’s glasses.)

What you looking at?

*Editor’s note: While Alex may have very much liked her first taste of bananas last night, they don’t seem to be liking her back. We may need to put bananas on hold for a while. Very gassy–and unhappy–baby in the early morning / late night hours.

4-Month Bear Picture

Actually posting on the same day! Hooray! Here’s the latest “bear” picture of Alexandra and Aaron on November 19th:

And, for comparison purposes, October 19th:

And August 19th:

3 Month Pictures (finally)

While these were all taken on October 19th, it took us a bit to get them posted. Enjoy!
